“At EA SPORTS, we take player analysis and simulation data very seriously. It’s the reason we are able to create such realistic player experiences within the game,” said Andrew Janjigian, Vice President, EA SPORTS Football. “We use the technology and data from the real-world players to evaluate player behaviors in our in-game simulations, making FIFA 22 the most authentic football experience on any platform.”

The technology has been developed to recreate the kind of player behavior and tactics the real professionals play at a high tempo. Players are classified into more than 100 skill classes based on their player behaviors, and the game analyzes and compresses those data points to make player classes match the real-world player types. For example, a player like Neymar, one of the most technically skilled players in football, would be matched to a player class that represents the technical player, with a lower skill class for the other attributes, such as speed, acceleration, and agility.

“The technology is being developed to bring football to a whole new level of realism,” said Branko Alexopolous, Senior Producer on FIFA 22. “We’re able to control the speed of the entire match to a level never before seen in a football game. The motions of the players are also more lifelike. We’ve even had the technology applied to the goalkeeper. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a goalkeeper simulate every movement exactly like a real player would.”

To further elevate the experience, the technology has been applied to more play-related actions on the pitch. The steps a player takes after the ball has been turned over are smoother than ever before. Running between lines, for example, now has greater purpose and could result in a pick up or a shot on goal.

“The best computer players in the world know exactly what you are about to do as you run through your moves. The motion capture technology now allows for the player to make those moves in a more realistic and smooth manner,” said Alexopolous.

HyperMotion Technology is applied to more than just player simulations and interactions in the game. More teams are now able to control their attacking transition points in game, even if it is only two to three second before the ball is passed from one player to the next. Teams have a more in-depth understanding of what their teams want to
