Since the launch of Lightroom 5, images exported with the new workflow certainly feel better than they used to inside the Adobe Bridge, but it is a strange feeling. Ultimately, I do feel that I have somewhat gotten used to the way things work now in Lightroom, and I am content with the way most of the new features in Lightroom 5 were implemented, especially when it comes to non-destructive editing. Certainly, the extended Spot Removal tool has made a huge difference to how I work with photos, since it is not only quick, but also enables me to edit with greater specificity. Also, an image can be saved with any changes you’ve made. It feels like never testing a photo again. I occasionally do not even delete backups of photos, as I am often able to apply these edits in Lightroom. That said, some issues still require my attention. The right-clicking menu is not as extensive as it has been before. In combination with the non-intuitive, single-click Recent option in the upper left corner, it keeps me from finding sometimes essential actions. I don’t mind the fact that the function keys in the top right are now mapped to functions in the Edit menu instead of undo/redo, but it sure is a huge disadvantage. The lack of useful tools in the Develop module does not make up for this, either. The impressive “Featured Adjustment” module is a side note, really. I also don’t feel that working with presets is as easy as before. I have come to love using presets, but I do miss the ability to apply them directly to an image by pressing a button. I use presets in the Develop module mostly, for specialized conditions or stylistic effects, but a quick press of a button to apply this or that effect would be perfect.
