    Why and why not?

    While I’ve uploaded this mod a lot of times, I will give you now an explanation on why I’m uploading a total remaking of this mod. It’s my first adventure game mod, and I decided to give it a try. The first version of this mod is 11_02_2016.zip – a pure Vanilla Static mod with fun gameplay, a nice balanced leveling curve, levelling of all main weapons, primary stat powerups, no new skills, almost all old skills from VR, Chili, and Blood Money, and most of the upgrades available. It’s a real adventure game that I think you will enjoy.

    How do I make GCC to detect and remove conflicting symbols?

    I’m having a major problem with a binary which is “not as it should be” because of some “conflicts”.
    I can’t understand how GCC manages the conflicts as I don’t see anything about this subject.
    I found this answer How to prevent GCC from resolving external symbols conflicts? which says that only compatibility with others’ binaries is a desirable thing.
    So, my question is, how does GCC manage conflicts?
    I’m not looking for a solution but for an explanation.
    BTW, I’m using gcc-4.8.2.

    A:

    A side effect of allowing for multiple definition of a symbol, is that you can treat the symbols to be “out of scope”. Meaning they are simply considered unused and therefore can be removed by the linker. This can be used in a way that you trick the compiler to use a wrong version of a symbol in one of the object files, which in turn makes the linker to assume that it has already been used and remove the other symbol which may actually interfere. It also gives the compiler the opportunity to prevent the previous version of the symbol.
