Philippine Secondary Schools Learning Competencies In Araling Panlipunan Rar

Secondary schools are the core of the educational system and provide learning opportunities that prepare their graduates for the demands of the labour market. To ensure that this happens, school curricula need to be enriched. With such enrichments, the market will have educated young people to become responsible citizens and create a better Philippines.

The Philippines, being a country with a population of over 100 million, has over 6,000 secondary schools that prepare almost 5 million high school graduates every year. These high school graduates are one of the most important factors in the development of the country. These high school graduates must have the necessary skills and knowledge to survive in the labour market. To acquire these skills and knowledge, the curriculum of secondary schools need to be enriched in order to prepare the students to cope with the challenges of the 21st century. Simply put, the curriculum should be redesigned to meet the needs of the 21st century.

In the second round of review, the fundamental concepts, concepts, goals and content (1) of each module and unit, (2) of the overall learning objectives, (3) of the learning process (pedagogy), and (4) of the specific competencies/competencies/concepts and concepts (keywords) in the curriculum for three districts (e.g. Koruboshing, Siloying, Agdinand, Essequiorjemandojemandoudigsoomeensistsubjectivénel/m/m/m/m/m), were being reviewed and updated in the Philippine High School (Grades 1-12) Makabayan Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies) Curriculum. In the Makabayan curriculum, one of the four units, Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies) is designed to develop the learner’s socio-cultural and politico-economic competencies. For the purpose of delimiting and scope, this study focuses on the geography curriculum of Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies) in the secondary education learning environment using the results of a study of the AP and Makabayan curricula as empirical data bases, that is, to delimit scope and to find out the extent that AP and Makabayan Curriculum develops in learners a sense of citizenship, that is, a healthy personal and national self-concept.
