Using WordPress to alter an image’s resolution is a snap. To do this just add the image with the desired resolution in a post/page, make the desired changes, then click on save. You also need a plugin and GIMP is not recommended (affinity photo seems to be the right choice). If you want to start with a WordPress editor, Fluffy is happy to show you how, go to the Plugins and themes section, and look for the WordPress image editor add-on.
This is the final step in this section: adding an image, be sure to choose the WordPress editor and GIMP (affinity photo) and then select “preserve transparency”.
