xeno crisis is a very forgiving shooter. if you miss, you can still easily hit the next target. however, if you run out of ammo, you will be left to your own devices. it is up to you whether you want to reload, die, or continue on. it is also up to you whether you want to play the easy or hard difficulty. if you prefer more challenging enemies, xeno crisis offers up both normal and hard difficulty settings. for the more casual player, the easy difficulty will probably do the trick. you will also notice that there are no checkpoints in the game, meaning no reloading is necessary in between stages. this makes the game much more enjoyable and lets you focus on the action.
while xeno crisis is a very forgiving shooter, it is by no means a perfect game. theres no shooting minigame, and if youre not careful, you can easily end up facing a horde of aliens and dying without the chance to even hit one. while you can easily beat the game in normal mode, the extra content will make it a lot more difficult. the boss maps, being harder than the regular stages, will require you to figure out how to survive and where to attack the boss. the only thing that will give you the upper hand is the extra health and bullets you get from the upgrades.
the story of xeno crisis is told in a series of voice overs. you’ll be told the entire backstory as well as learn more about the characters and the world, but it’s hardly something you need to know. this comes in handy because the voice acting is so good you can follow along even without the context. the character designs were done by nieborg, but it’s the script that really makes the cut. the dialogue is fantastic, the voice actors are all great, and the story is incredibly interesting. the voice acting in xeno crisis is so good that even the in-game music is enjoyable. the music is provided by master sound designer reji n taro, who has worked on countless games including castlevania series, super mario galaxy 2, and castle crashers. the music in xeno crisis is superb. if you like metroidvania games and you have a switch, then this is a must-buy.
